Cardiology

The cardiology unit is the unit that includes the diagnosis, treatment and preventive treatments of heart diseases. Heart diseases are the most common cause of death in our country as well as all over the world. 42 percent of deaths in our country, that is, almost one in every two deaths, occur as a result of cardiovascular diseases. The death rate due to heart diseases is twice that of cancer deaths and four times that of respiratory system diseases, which are the other most common causes of death.

What are Cardiology Diagnostic Methods?

Heart diseases are largely preventable and delayable diseases. For this, primary prevention, that is, the emergence of diseases must be prevented. This is possible by early detection and control of risk factors that lead to the disease. Secondary prevention measures include the prevention of permanent damage and death in individuals with advanced cardiovascular disease. Early diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases are of great importance for secondary prevention. The Cardiology Department deals with the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment (medication and interventional treatments) of a wide range of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition to chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, and easy fatigue, you can also apply to a cardiologist without waiting for any complaints. Your cardiovascular disease risks will be evaluated and risks can be brought under control with regular check-ups. Your physician will plan the tests he/she deems appropriate according to your complaints, and if you do not have any complaints, the examination findings and your risk status.Kardiyoloji

Tests and Procedures Performed

• Electrocardiography (ECG)
It is used in the diagnosis of heart diseases. It is taken with the help of electrodes attached to the patient's chest, arm and leg area.

• Echocardiography (ECHO)
It is used in the diagnosis of heart failure and heart valve disorders to examine the heart structure.

• EFFORT (Stress) Test
The exercise test, also known as exercise ECG, is performed on the patient on a treadmill. It is a procedure in which the patient's heart rate and workload are increased; the heart's reactions are monitored with serial ECG shots during this load.

• Stress Echocardiography
It is a dynamic echocardiography (heart ultrasound) method that has areas of use such as determining the level of valve stenosis, vitality in the region of a previous heart attack, and new vascular occlusion in the heart by increasing the heart rate within a certain range with exercise or intravenous drug use. It is a diagnostic tool applied without using radiation to decide whether the patient needs coronary angiography. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. After the patient's resting echocardiography is performed, the heart rate is increased with medication or exercise and the images are repeated, and the areas fed by various vessels in the heart are examined in detail while the heart rate is high and then returns to normal. It is especially important in terms of the necessity of coronary angiography in patients who are considered superior to the EFFORT test and cannot exercise.

• Rhythm Holter (Blood pressure + rhythm holter, 24, 48 and 72 hours)
Holters are wearable devices that can monitor the patient's heart rhythm. It may need to remain in the body for 24, 48 or 72 hours to examine the heart rhythm. Blood pressure holter is used to measure blood pressure at certain periods in a natural environment for 24 hours. Drug therapy can be used if deemed necessary as a result of the examinations. A permanent pacemaker (biventricular ICD, CRT) can be inserted in some serious rhythm-conduction diseases.

• CT Coronary Angiography
CT coronary angiography is a tomographic imaging method performed using contrast material. It is a method that helps plan the treatment of many diseases such as anatomical disorders in the heart and coronary stenosis.

• Venous and Arterial Doppler
These examinations are used in the diagnosis of arterial and venous problems.
